Good Company was formed in 1982, by a small breakaway group from Brownhills Choral Society who were looking to sing more modern pieces in four- to eight- part harmonies.  At that time rehearsals took place in the conductor’s front room.  Originally called Brownhills Camarata, the name was changed having discovered that there was a theatrical group already in existence of the same name.

Good Company was chosen from a musical piece written by King Henry VIII called “Pastime with Good Company” and the choir continues to perform this as part of our repertoire.

In 2012 the role of Musical Director was taken over by Linda Harniess and since then the choir has gone from strength to strength and enjoys a membership of around 50 with a good range of vocal parts.

Under Linda’s direction the choir has expanded its repertoire to embrace many genres of music in order to reach and entertain a wide range of audiences.  Concerts now include popular music, songs from the shows, classical and ecumenical music.

As well as concerts we often provide entertainment at care homes and take wedding bookings.

Each year Good Company undertake two main concerts in Sutton Coldfield donating a proportion of the proceeds to local charities usually nominated by members.  The choir has been on tour to Northumberland, Cornwall and Buxton performing at locations such as Hexham Abbey,  Alnwick Castle,  St Michael’s Mount and Tideswell.  We have also performed at Hodnet in Shropshire,  Sedgeley and Wolverhampton Wanderers  FC and a concert was scheduled at Polesworth Abbey this summer which unfortunately had to be cancelled due to the Coronavirus.

We like to finish our year raising funds for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham performing Christmas songs and carols in the hospital foyer.
